How to Choose a Bathroom Fitter in Norfolk and Suffolk: 9 Questions to Ask

Aug 29
3 min read

Choosing a bathroom fitter is not only about comparing the final price. A full renovation combines plumbing, electrical work, preparation, waterproofing, tiling, furniture installation and finishing. The strongest quotation is the one that makes the scope, responsibilities and expected result easy to understand.

Use these questions when speaking to bathroom installers in Norfolk or Suffolk. Their answers should help you compare like with like and reduce surprises after the room has been stripped out.

1. Can I see completed projects similar to mine?

Ask for examples that match the type of work you need: a complete renovation, a small bathroom, a wet room, large-format tiling or a layout change. Look at setting-out, tile cuts, corners, silicone lines, alignment and how the whole room has been finished, not just the most attractive wide-angle photograph.

2. Will I receive a written, itemised quotation?

A useful quote explains what is included in removal, preparation, plumbing, electrical work, waterproofing, tiling, fitting, decorating and waste disposal. It should also identify important exclusions and whether products, tiles and delivery charges are included. A single unexplained total is difficult to compare.

3. Who coordinates all the different trades?

Clarify whether you will manage several contractors yourself or whether one company will coordinate the programme. Ask who is responsible for sequencing plumbing, electrical work, plastering, tiling and joinery, and who you contact if a decision or issue arises.

4. How will the room be prepared and waterproofed?

Tiles and grout do not replace correct preparation. Ask what substrates will be used, how wet areas and penetrations will be protected, and whether the proposed waterproofing, adhesive and grout form a compatible system. The answer should be specific to your shower, bath or wet-room design.

5. What could affect the schedule?

A professional should discuss product lead times, hidden conditions and drying times before promising a completion date. Ask when products must be on site and what happens if damaged goods or unexpected floor and wall conditions are discovered.

6. Are you insured for the work?

Ask to see current public liability insurance and check that it relates to the work being carried out. For regulated electrical or other specialist work, confirm who will complete it and what appropriate documentation will be provided.

7. How will you protect my home and remove waste?

Discuss access, dust control, floor protection, daily tidying and where tools and materials will be stored. Confirm whether removal of the old bathroom and building waste is included in the quotation.

8. How are changes and payments handled?

The payment schedule and process for variations should be written down. If the specification changes, ask for the cost and programme impact before authorising the extra work. Be cautious when major payments are requested without a clear written scope or reasonable progress milestones.

9. What happens at the final inspection?

Ask how testing, cleaning and snagging are handled. The finished room should be checked for drainage, leaks, seals, operation of fittings, doors and drawers, ventilation, lighting and any remaining finishing points.

Common warning signs

  • A vague quotation that does not separate labour, materials, preparation and exclusions.

  • No relevant portfolio or reluctance to explain how similar projects were completed.

  • Pressure to start before the layout and product specification are confirmed.

  • No clear answer about waterproofing or regulated electrical work.

  • Verbal changes with no written price or schedule impact.

  • No named person responsible for coordinating the project.

Why project management matters

Good project management protects both finish quality and time. Products are checked before they are needed, trades follow the right sequence, and decisions are made before they hold up the next stage. It also gives you one clear point of contact.
